For more than 100 years, American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM) has successfully worked behalf of American manufacturers that serve the American people and make modern life possible. And, just as our industries have constantly evolved, so has our trade association.
- 1902: National Petroleum Association (NPA) was founded with the goal of “securing good to the Independent Oil refiners of Pennsylvania and Ohio.”
- 1912: Western Petroleum Refiners Association (WPA) was created, merging with the Texas Petroleum Refiners Association in 1920 and with the Arkansas-Louisiana Refiners Association in 1936.
- 1961: NPA and WPA merge to become the National Petroleum Refiners Association.
- 1998: The National Petroleum Refiners Association becomes the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA) to reflect the important role of petrochemical manufacturers in our association and in America.
- 2012: NPRA becomes who we are today, the American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers.
This name emphasizes more than ever what we stand for: American manufacturing and products that make modern life better, safer, more productive and — most of all — possible.
